Sheetal Sudhir asked me what I felt about these photographs. ‘Most are fashion shots of older people’ I said. She pointed out matter-of-factly “they are dead people Dad!’

Défilé is a series of life-sized photographs of 7 recently deceased people dressed in high fashion garments. A fashion picture only serves to remind us of mankind’s obsession with fashions’ seeming permanence. However, a fashion picture after its inception also begins to date and age itself.

Défilé is a reminder that our obsession with youth, beauty and our image, only shows our own transitory existence.

Inspired by this art installation by AES+F , I took two steps back, to include the two pillars with their broken plaster to reflect the impermanence of support, and included the fleeting shadow on the left as just that – ‘fleeting’.
